When I apply for my new marriage license, will they be able to find out about my previous marriage?

I am divorced, and I would rather not list it on my new license. My first marriage was in Virginia, and my new marriage will be as well, but we will be applying for our new license in a different county.

I just want to know if the clerk will provide a check when we go to apply. This is a simple question, and I’d rather people not question my motives behind it.

I live in Sarpy county in Nebraska and my fiance and I are getting our marriage license Tuesday. It says on their website the license is valid for a year. Why is that and does that mean we have to renew it every year?

Also, they said we don’t have to have witnessess come but I thought you need a witness to sign the papers with you?
