Do I need a copy of a marriage license when filing for adjustment of status?

My fiancee and I are getting married on the 12th and we’d like to file the paperwork the day after. Obviously we won’t have our marriage license by then, but we need all the time we can get. We have all sorts of other paperwork, including an apartment lease with our names on it and photos. The government is unclear as to whether we need a copy of our marriage license when filing for AOS.

My girlfriend is a German Citizen, and we realized that the German bureaucracy doesn’t easily recognise the Indian marriage certificate and there are a lot of complications. But now, for me to get married in Germany I need to produce a valid certificate of marriage ability to the Registrar office in Germany. How shall I obtain one?
